Average Rating: Rating: - Really not a bad thing... I used the diaper genie with my 2 daughters ( used it for about 5 yrs. before I gave it away) and it did it's job. It was simple enough to operate and kept the baby's room from smelling bad. True, emptying the genie does stink- it is after all full of dirty diapers- but at least the room stayed fresh! I would always change the diaper genie outside by the trash cans, hose and wipe it down a little, then spray it with Lysol. Made the project a little more pleasant. Also, if the diaper was REALLY bad, I'd change the baby, wrap the diaper up in a plastic bag (or two) and immediately dispose of it in the kitchen wastebasket - gets to the outside can quicker that way! Keep in mind that ALL diaper pails need to be cleaned occasionally for sanitary reasons!! In my opinion, this product worked well, lasted a few years and was worth the buying price & cost of refills. Rating: - Past the Learning Curve This product is great once you get up to speed on its use! I would definitely recommend taking the time to go over the directions before your new baby arrives, as this will keep you from feeling under pressure to get it right the first time. Not having that tip myself, I was a bit frustrated in the beginning, but now I wouldn't be without the Genie. The odor control is amazing! I am looking forward to trying some of the tips other parents have mentioned in their reviews, such as using twist ties at the beginning and end of each string to save on liner wastage and tying off a new one earlier so that the first few diapers are able to twist fully closed before the old batch is removed. Also, I have found that it is important to let friends and family know to be sure to twist the top ring in the same clockwise direction after inserting a dirty diaper, or you will always be puzzled about why the bag keeps coming undone. All in all, I'd have to say this will be the shower gift I give from now on, because it is practical and much more useful than toys or frilly outfits for a newborn. First time moms will love you for this gift, especially if you share with them how to use it easily and include a few refill liner packs, so they don't have to worry about getting them at a store while the baby is still so tiny. Overall, I am very impressed with this product and thrilled that my friend bought me a gift I now would never want to go without... it makes this usually smelly chore a breeze! Rating: - WORST PRODUCT EVER!!!! I would have never invested in this product if I would have asked around first. This product has good intentions, but doesn't deliver. The diaper genie wouldn't wrap the diapers. They would just rip the plastic and fall to the bottom. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone!!
