Average Rating: Rating: - Didn't work for us! When I had my first daughter, I insisted on the Avent bottles. I had worked in daycares and several babies had used these bottles. I liked the shape of the nipple and the easy to hold bottle. I had never had a problem with them before. Until she was 3 weeks old and we tried to give her one, that is! Even on the lowest flow, the milk was running down her chin and she couldn't get a good suction on the nipple. She constantly was making a clicking noise trying to latch on. The nipple is much too hard! I never had a leaking problem with these bottles as many had, it was simply the nipple that my daughter couldn't handle. Having spent a fortune on these bottles, getting the entire set before she was born (my mistake!), I kept on trying them with her. She is a spit-up champion, and her dr. recommended we add a little rice cereal to her bottles and we tried her on the 'variable flow' nipple. What a waste! She choked and gagged even on the slowest flow of a variable nipple. It claims to match the stage 2 flow, but it is much faster. In the end, we switched to Dr. Browns. We should have listened in the first place and gone with these; the nipple is much softer and she doesn't lose a drop down her chin. Rating: - Love Avent As other reviewers have stated, Avent is great because everything is compatible and of good quality. The bottles will leak at times and Im not sure why...but I just readjust the top and it does okay. I am a new mom and wasnt sure how my son would take to Avent, but he switched between the bottle and nursing great. TIP FOR NEW MOMS: I thought I was done using the 4 oz bottles when he graduated to the 9 oz, but the smaller ones are good to keep on hand when baby is learning to hold the bottle on his own. The 9 oz tends to be too heavy for him to keep hold of, but he has no problem clutching the 4 oz - so I just make 2 for him :)(Also, buy EXTRA nipples! It really makes life easier. Stage 1-2 should last you a while. The Stage 3 nipples seem to run too fast for him still, even though my son is 6 months and is quite a hefty eater). Rating: - great bottle I started out w/ the playtex ventair and johnson's healthflow bottles when my baby was born (I never breast fed). I loved the playtex and johnson's too, but when my son graduated to the larger 8oz bottle, they were too tall for the bottle compartment of my Avent diaper bag. So I decided to try the Avent bottles. I love them, they are easy to clean and very versatile. The sippy cup lids fit on the bottles and the bottle lids and nipples fit on the sippy cups. The handles that you can purchase for the sippy cups can also be put on the bottles. I love how everything can be interchanged. They are easy to clean, but a bit pricey. I have heard of people having problems w/ leaking, I haven't had that problem. If you get the wrong nipples (i.e. putting the disposable nipples on the reusable bottles) you may have a leaking problem, but as long as you screw the cap on tight the bottles work great. The other great thing about Avent is that they sell bottle lids seperately, the only company that I have found that does. It is very helpful: when you lose a lid, you can buy a replacement w/o buying another bottle.
