Average Rating: Rating: - An excellent monitor...so far! Like many other baby monitor purchasers out there, this is not the first one we've owned, but so far it is the best one. We love the 2-way communication feature which lets us talk to our daughter before we get in there, and sometimes we can just use that to calm her and then roll back over to sleep...a first! The signal is very clear, without the annoying hum or static of other monitors we've had. The only slight flaw it has is that when the volume is turned up louder there is a slight pulse in the signal, but it's really only audible if you're right next to the monitor. At night when there's no other sound around, we can adjust the volume so we don't hear the pulse but can hear our daughter clearly. After reading the many bad reviews here on other monitors we went with this one and would highly reccommend it. It's amazing that so many baby monitors perform so poorly. I'm glad we read some reviews first this time! Rating: - Disappointed - they don't make anything like they used to I bought this monitor for the purpose of utilizing the intercom feature - We had just had a new baby and were giving our toddler girls (2 and 3) a chance to room together. I put this monitor into the girls' room to keep tabs on them at naps and bedtime and be able to "SSHHH" them from the 1st floor. It worked like a charm for nearly 18 months. Just recently the parent unit went dead. I called the company about a month ago and a new battery was going to cost $ but was back ordered 6 weeks. But it actually wasn't only the battery - even plugged in the parent unit wouldn't pick up a signal from the kids' room. I called the company again and they said I could buy a new parent unit for (get this) $... - I thought they were crazy - I might as well buy a whole new monitor. AND they were of no help as far as troubleshooting what the problem could be - they seem content that a product that should be made to last at least a few years just died out after 18 months - we did use the monitor/intercom nightly - but usually plugged in - and there was never any abuse to the units (they don't have a scratch on them). So I am puzzled as to why it just stopped working. The warranty on their monitors is apparently only 90 days - seems kind of short. I still have a Fisher Price monitor (deluxe link or security link) with flashing lights that I got for my baby shower 5 years ago - it's in the nursery and still works fine. I am very disappointed in Evenflo for the limited life of this monitor - but more so for their poor customer service and warranty policy. Do they really think someone will pay $.. for a new parent unit - when I can get the whole monitor brand new for $.. right here???? Rating: - This will definitely be used as more than a baby monitor too I picked this up based on the reviews of folks here. We live in the suburbs and don't have to worry about a lot of other baby monitors interfering with ours. Also, our home is a 3-bedroom colonial, so the monitor doesn't have to broadcast far. So we don't seem to have any problems with reception. I was a little apprehensive when I read one reviewer write that it could only be used to either listen to baby OR talk to baby. That is not true. (Maybe they had a defective unit.) If it is in "Intercom" mode, you can hear the baby AND speak to the baby. Just having it in "Monitor" mode shuts off the 'talk' feature. One of my friends mentioned to me that he also uses the monitor (when not needed for the baby) to 'broadcast' music and other wave files from his computer. He just puts the baby monitor in from of one of his computer speakers, and brings the other with him while he does chores around the house. I am finding this useful because I listen to a lot of 'streaming' broadcasts of sports, religion, etc, and now I do not have to be tied-down to the computer to enjoy it.
