This is definitely the set to get. It includes everything you'll need for baby well care in a convenient storage pouch. I tend to leave things all over my house but with this kit I never have to search for tiny items. All of the pieces I've tried so far work very well also. The clippers are my favorite since they are very easy to handle. The scissors work for nails as well. The brush is excellent....very soft bristles for my daughter who doesn't have much hair yet. Nail files and alcohol swabs are nice extras. The bulb syringe works better than the one from Gerber that I have and the thermometer was a cinch to use as well. I have yet to use the medicine dropper or water temp taker but I doubt there is anything wrong with those items. I also have to wait for my daughter's teeth before I test the toothbrush but it's nice that I have everything handy already. I love this set and keep it clipped on my nursery cart. It also comes with a useful book on taking care of your baby. Definitely the best kit with the most baby essentials.

This is a very useful set in a handy carrying pouch. Although I haven't used all the items on my newborn baby yet, it's good to know that I'll have the tools available when I need them. The nail clippers and nail files have been the most useful so far (my baby is 2 1/2 months old). And I also use the hair brush frequently. The set also includes alcohol packets (for the baby's belly button) but I had plenty from the hospital so I never used them. My only complaint is the nail aspirator. The length of the tube is very short (compared to one I received at the hospital) and the bulb is difficult to compress, so I find it difficult to get a good suction when I need to clear her nose. Otherwise, I highly recommend this item - its a handy set for the price!

Yes, some of the items in this kit are more useful than others. Yes, some of the items in this kit will be duplicates of what some hospitals give you "free." Yes, some of the items aren't really for newborns, but that doesn't mean they won't come in handy at some point. Overall, I'm EXTREMELY glad to have had this kit on hand early on.Item by item:
Aspirator: Probably the biggest disappointment in the kit. Serves an important function, just doesn't serve it terribly well. We liked the one we got from the hospital better, but this is an item that it's good to have several of. Toothbrush: Not useful, yet. Almost 6 months in, she's got a couple of teeth, but we're still just using a gauze wrapped finger to clean them. Might be more useful later, to its credit, it does seem sturdy. Comb & Brush: Utility depends on how much hair your child has! We really like the brush, firm enough to really brush through her hair but soft enough to be gentle. Bathwater temp. gauge: Okay, I admit it, we mainly just wing it (checking with the inside of our forearms). But, if you're worried enough to want one, this one should do the trick well. It even has a suction cup to attach it to the side of the tub. Tweezers: Haven't needed them yet, but these do have 'finger-holds' to make them a little more steady. Digital Thermometer: Thankfully haven't needed to use this one on the baby yet, but we have used it ourselves (to test accuracy) and it's quick. We use a temporal scanner to test if she has a fever, if it ever got high enough, we'd use this rectally to verify before calling the Dr. Medicine Dropper and Spoon: Can't use them yet, as baby's not yet old enough to take medicine from a spoon and the dropper's increments are too big for her infant dosages - BUT, these seem very well made, heavy weight plastic and will likely get lots of use later. Either way, these are a must as medicines should never be dosed out of kitchen spoons (not a reliable measure). Nail scissors: Have come in handy to trim tags and fraying edges or loose strings, though we haven't used them on her nails. Haven't needed to because of the best item in the kit . . . Nail Clippers and Emery Boards: These are far and away the best nail scissors I've used (and I do have several pairs, again this is an item that you'll want a couple of). Sized right and 'sharp' enough to do the job efficiently (cutting those tiny nails can be trying enough, you won't want to have to 'cut' each one several times to get it done!). The emery boards are necessary for taking the corners off the edges, so they don't scratch themselves. All in all, very worth the investment and quite handy to have them all in one place (trust me, you'll lose plenty of things in those first few weeks, your mind not the least of them, but at least with this kit you'll always be able to find those necessary baby items!).
